iPlay4e Live

In affiliation with www.iplay4e.com – brindysoft.com presents iPlay4e Live.

iPlay4e brought digital character sheets for 4th edition D&D to iOS at its device-friendly website iPlay4e.com. Now, iPlay4e Live gives those sheets a home on your iPhone or iPad, where they can be used even when you’re offline! Once you’re using iPlay4e Live, all you need to play is your iOS device (dice optional).

Highlights:

* Export your characters from the D&D Insider Character Builder to iPlay4e.com, then use iPlay4e Live to make them available offline.
* Characters automatically sync as soon as you get your connection back.
* New features on iPlay4e.com are automatically available in iPlay4e Live.
* The best character sheet for D&D 4e available on mobile devices.
* Pass a single device around the table using instant character switching.
* Tight integration with your Wizards D&D Insider Compendium makes your DDI subscription even more valuable.
* Mature design puts everything on your character sheet within one or two touches.
* Speeds play by presenting all available power and actions at a glance.
* Customizable power cards have complete power card information and editable notes.
* Make attack rolls against one or multiple targets, skill rolls, and arbitrary die rolls.
* Track power usage, hit points, conditions, death saves, surges, rests, money, and experience points.

You can find iPlay4e specific help here.

If you have a problem with the app on your iPad and need some help – please leave a comment below, or contact me using the contact page.  Thanks! :)

Login Problems?

A very small number of users (around 3) have had trouble logging in with their Google account.  There appears to be two solutions to this:

  • create a new Google account specifically for iPlay4e.  If you have made a donation to remove ads, let us know and we’ll update the donation status for the new account.
  • create an app specific password.  This isn’t something we’ve had to do or been able to test ourselves, but we’d sure like to know how you get on with it.

Failing that, let us know and we’ll try our best to help!

Hey, is this a live project? I was poking around in the App Store and I couldn’t find it.

We’re going through the approval process at the moment – this page had to be up for them to approve it. We’ve hit a snag, but hope to have it ironed out in the next couple of weeks.

Sweet! I’m still looking for the perfect offline 4e iPad sheet (sorry, i4e and DoW), so I’ll pick it up as soon as I see it.

Hi – did you see that iPlay4e Live is now available? :)

Is an Android version in the pipeline?

    • brindy 3 months ago   Reply

It’s in the concept stage at the moment. Android presents a number of technical problems and user interface design problems that simply don’t exist with iOS, so it might be that we only support Android 3.0 because of those. Watch this space! Actually, watch the iPlay4e mailing list ;-)

Got kicked off of iPlay4e web site for the first time tonight.
“App Engine Error – Over Quota – This Google App Engine application is temporarily over its serving quota. Please try again later.”

Does the app rely on Google App Engine, or will I risk suffering another bomb like tonight?

    • brindy 2 months ago   Reply

Thanks for letting us know. The app itself doesn’t depend on GAE, but of course iPlay4e does, so I’ll let Andrew know.

        Hi Randy and Chris,

I just doubled the daily quota spend for iPlay4e again. It appears we’ve been victims of our own success!

        Cheers,

Is there any way to “push” an update between the iplay4e.com website and the iphone? I updated my character on the website but it won’t update the iphone version. Is there something I’m missing?

    Great app btw.

If you’re on v1.0 then you need to swipe the character you want to update, delete it, and then refresh iPlay4e’s list of remote characters and download it again. v1.1 (which was out over the weekend) makes this a bit more obvious by adding an edit button, but also has an update option from a menu which pops up after a long-press on the character in question.

I can’t get all of the Compendium data to load in my iPad2. Not only the Weapon Enchants or other levelled items (which is a known error with wrong links in the .dnd4e file) but most of the compendium data (e.g. rituals, adventuring gear, class/race info… feats seem to load ok).
It just loads forever and nothing appears. If I load the iPlay4e website in Safari, all (working – still no weapons…) compendium links load without a problem.

Same here. Not every link connects to compendium on my iPad 2. Just hangs. Not a huge problem, but it’s the only way to see my magic item powers (really need those to have their own button you know)

Baz, can you confirm that the same thing happen doesn’t happen when using iPlay4e with Safari on the iPad 2, please? (i.e. not using iPlay4e Live, but still on the iPad).
